What to expect?
Reiki is all about relaxation. All you need to bring with you is an open mind. Upon arrival, your Reiki practitioner will show you to a private treatment room where you’ll be asked to lie down on a comfortable therapy couch. You can expect your surroundings to be calm, candle-lit and accompanied by soothing music. Your practitioner will now start rejuvenating those chakras! At this point they’ll ask if you’d prefer hands-on or hands-off Reiki. The difference is pretty simple - as Reiki is drawn through the practitioner, you can either choose to allow their hands to rest gently on you as they connect with your energy, or hovering just off your skin instead. Choose whatever you feel most comfortable with! Once your treatment has commenced, energy is drawn through your practitioner’s hands to you, the recipient.
Good to know
- The benefits of Reiki are said to be felt for some time after the treatment at a physical, emotional and spiritual level. You can expect to feel a lot more balanced. Hello, equilibrium!
- Reiki is not a religion or belief system and will work whether or not you believe in it. Interestingly, it works equally well for plants and animals.
- You may feel sleepy after treatment, and falling asleep during the treatment itself is totally normal!
- Make sure to stay hydrated after your Reiki session.
- When looking for a Reiki therapist, it’s worth finding out if your chosen practitioner is a Reiki Master. This means they’re thoroughly trained and know their craft.
The sciencey stuff
Researchers at Stanford University were able to measure the energy flow in the body and verified that Reiki energy enters the crown chakra (head) and exits through the palm chakras in the hands. We all acknowledge and understand various energy sources such as coal, gas, wind power or electricity and the energy we all feel within our physical bodies. But there’s evidence that the definition of energy is much more comprehensive than our basic understanding. Einstein and quantum physics have explained that at an atomic level everything that exists in the Universe is energy. Well, you can’t argue with Einstein…
